Rag Pickers of Midnight
By HB, Nov. 30, 2007
Mumbai, India
On a recent delayed flight back, my autorickshaw ploughed through the
streets of Mumbai late at night. It was 2 am when I saw a heap
of garbage by the side of the road. As if that itself was not wrong,
I saw two children not more than 12 yrs young trawling through the refuse
looking for articles of some value that they could sell in the scrap
market, or worse, food they could fill their bellies with.
Issues:
» Open garbage on streets
» Children deprived of education and their childhood
Questions:
» What can be done to remove the garbage?
» What can be done to improve the lives of underprivileged children?
Feedback:
Please write us your responses in a few lines. Remember, make your feedback
meaningful & actionable. Ask yourself the question - how would I
solve this problem?
